The Position - Procurement Category Leader

The Role

·       Overall leadership of the category team, providing direction, coaching and performance management to develop and maintain a highly effective team.

·       Lead the development of and achieve business wide buy-in and approval for category strategies.

·       Promote and share leading practise across the category management network.

·       Provide the link between Procurement and New Product Development teams to ensure best procurement practice is applied..

·       To coach and educate personnel in the strategic sourcing model and best procurement practice, including lean 6 sigma practices.

·       To design, implement and continually improve processes and tools used to manage the category spend so that business targets are achieved. A particular focus will be producing detailed project plans, data analysis and converting these into living projects with deliverables. Leading to results analysis and KPI reporting.

·       To provide commercial expertise to internal customers during the processes of identification, understanding, prioritisation and management of risk with respect to the procurement of goods and services within the category

·       To provide commercial and negotiation expertise to all projects and initiatives in the category devised to achieve the COMPANY cost reduction programme.

·       To identify Procurement cost reduction opportunities across the COMPANY category and follow through as appropriate.

 

Successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of procurement category managers, buyers, technical category managers and assistants.  Overall accountability for delivering their team’s savings and other targets through the development and deployment of robust category strategies. In addition, they will support the Director of Procurement in forming and implementing the overall strategy for the function.

The Candidate

·       Graduate level.

·       At least 3-5 years supply chain and or purchasing experience.

·       Extremely well developed influencing and communication skills, both written and oral.

·       Strong team leadership and teamwork skills for cross-functional activity. 

·       Particular importance is a focus on detail along with supply chain, distribution and purchasing experience with effective negotiation skills. 

·       Adept at developing and implementing planning and/or sourcing strategies that will deliver business needs. 

·       Excellent analytical skills

·       CIPS desirable.
