Dr David Moore TD MBA MCIPS

David had a successful career in purchasing and supply chain management in a number of organisations including a US multinational, local government, heavy and light engineering and manufacturing organisations. As a senior manager in British Gas he was responsible for purchasing, contracts, inventory management, distribution and the development of IT applications for logistic support.

With the University of Glamorgan from 1988 until 1996, he was initially responsible for the management and delivery of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply programmes (in a variety of modes, including full time, part time and in company courses). "In company" courses were developed for British Airways, London Underground and the Civil Service College. Subsequently, he initiated, developed and managed MBA programmes (again, in a variety of modes including full time, part time and "in company"). "In company" courses included Welsh Water and Mid Glamorgan County Council. He developed, organised and managed the innovative "MBA by Directed Learning in Bahrain." A key element of these MBA programmes was the recognition of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.

He has been with Cranfield University since 1996, where he first implemented and managed the BSc (Hons) Management & Logistics course and then the MSc Defence Logistics Management, which he also designed and developed. He is now the Course Director of the programmes.

He has regularly undertaken training and consultancy assignments in the UK, USA, Europe, Middle East and Far East. Clients have included Shell, British Gas, NHS, Welsh Office, Qatar Steel and Arab Ship Repair Yard.

Publications include a study guide on purchasing and supply, a text on "People and Organisational Management" for the Department of Trade and Industry, a book on defence logistics and numerous conference and journal papers.

He recently finished his appointment as a Lt Col in the Royal Logistic Corps (TA), where he commanded a Supply Regiment/Group and then held a Staff Officer appointment.

David is an External Examiner for Coventry University and the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. He is expecting to complete his Doctorate, on The Education and Training of Purchasing and Supply Chain Professionals, by the end of 2001.
