Eric Evans is a management consultant specialising in purchasing and logistics. He is Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and a Fellow of the Institute of Logistics. Eric has management qualifications from both John Moores University at Liverpool and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
In 1992 Eric established his own consultancy practice which, in the last nine years, has built a client list of international and blue chip companies. He has been involved in management consultancy for fifteen years during which time he has also worked for Price Waterhouse and Ernst & Young. At Ernst & Young he was Director of the UK Purchasing Consulting Practice. During his time in consultancy, he has carried out a number of assignments in a variety of industries.
Eric is also a Director of Performance Diagnostics Ltd which is a company specialising in benchmarking software. The company is currently beta testing a software package for the benchmarking of purchasing processes against world class standards.
He is a regular contributor to management journals on these subjects, and is a frequent speaker at purchasing conferences in the UK, Europe, Africa and the Far East. He is the author of three books; on procurement, negotiation and e-commerce.
From 1989 to 1992 Eric was seconded to the NHS as National Director of Purchasing & Logistics. During this time he was involved in the establishment of the NHS Supplies Authority. As its first National Director in this post he achieved savings of 4 percent on a supplies influenced spend of £1.7 billion, reduced the number of warehouses from 80 to 46, and reduced staffing levels by 10 percent.
From 1998 to 2000, Eric took on a hands-on role as Director of Procurement within the wines and spirits division of Diageo. During his time there, Eric was responsible for restructuring the Global procurement operations and for delivering savings of £75m on a spend of £800m.
Before entering management consultancy, Eric was employed as a senior lecturer in purchasing and supplies management at the North West Regional Management Centre, and before that as a Commercial and Supplies Manager with Dunlop Ltd.
