Peter Murray grew up in South Africa, and completed his first degree at the University of Cape Town, before doing research for a PhD in Physical Chemistry at Cambridge.
After graduating, he worked for twenty years in the Pharmaceutical Industry, and the UK National Health Service, where he held a number of senior positions in information management, strategic planning and corporate development.
He joined the University of Hull in 1994, and has taught courses on quantitative methods, strategy, systems thinking, management thought, quality and research methods on programmes at all levels from first year undergraduate to doctoral training. He held the position of Senior Lecturer and Director of Doctoral Programmes at the University of Hull Business School. He is the external examiner and consultant for doctoral programmes at several UK Business Schools.
He has extensive experience of teaching in the Middle East, Singapore and Hong Kong, and has taught students from all over Asia and Africa at colleges in the UK.
Since taking early retirement in 2004, he has developed a range of teaching and consultancy interests with Universities and other educational and training organisations at masters and Doctoral level. He delivers modules on Strategy, Systems Thinking, Operations (including Supply Chain), and Team Building, and is employed as an external examiner and consultant on several doctoral programmes.
He undertakes a number of voluntary assignments with organisations which have an interest in the improvement of conditions in developing countries.
